NORI HR skydive 15,000ft for 12 charities
In September, we completed our seventh event for our #12in12for12 charity campaign. We took the jump, quite literally, and skydived from 15,000ft.
The NORI HR divers Jason Govindji-Bruce and Gary Foster were joined by Richard Singleton and Kelsey Pilkington (whY-us?) and Debbi Dawson (East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce). The brave participants were terrified but also excited to complete the jump for twelve great causes.
The skydive took the team 3 miles (15,000ft) into the air
The day began with an early morning journey to the Black Knights parachute centre in Lancaster, which is home to the highest tandem jump in the UK. How’s that for brave?! Next up was a nervous briefing and induction from the experienced skydivers. Whilst the team waited for their jump, they watched the plane take other jumpers into the sky, and take the leap.
Before they knew it, it was time to do it themselves. The team were divided into two and taken to be suited up in the skydiving gear. They were taught the landing position and had time to practice themselves. Then it was time to go!
The teams boarded the plane and embarked into the clouds. The plane journey, as you can imagine, was pretty tense! The jumpers flew into the sky to reach 15,000, ready to dive. Each participant had their own skilled instructor for the tandem skydive. They were also joined by a skydiving videographer, who caught the lead-up and highlights of the jump.
The dive lasted around 7 minutes and included 60 seconds of freefall over the lovely views of the Flyde coast. You could even spot Blackpool Tower! The team reached speeds of 160mph during the jump for our chosen twelve charities.
Overall, the skydive was a great success. The day was filled with adrenaline and fundraising, making it a great addition to our charity and CSR portfolio.
The #12in12for12 campaign
The skydive was one of twelve events for our 12 events, that we are completing in 12 months, for 12 charities. This huge challenge is to aid the amazing charities that are helping our local area with issues affecting our community.
The twelve charities are:
- 6 Connections
- Accrington Stanley Community Trust
- Age Concern Lancashire
- Age UK Lancashire
- Burnley Football Club in the Community
- Community CVS Blackburn
- Community Foundation for Lancashire & Merseyside
- Community Solutions North West
- East Lancashire Hospice
- Positive Action in the Community
- Pendleside Hospice
- Rossendale Hospice
A huge congratulations, and thank you to those who jumped in aid of our #12in12for12 campaign. Another thanks to our amazing sponsor, Booksmart Accounting. The skydive raised over £3,000 collectively, which adds to our total amount of around £12,000.
We can’t wait to see how much we have raised come the end of this campaign. We still have five events to go, next up is our Big Fat Quiz of The Year 2022! The quiz will be full of trivia, music, fundraising and even magic, thanks to Michael from the King of Aces. You can find out more and register to join here.
